Catherine Gaudet

La très excellente et lamentable tragédie de Roméo et Juliette

© Claudia Chan Tak

  • Length: 75 minutes

Shut inside a room, two damned young people have fled the violence of the world. They only have one night to themselves. One night is a short time to live the love of your life.

Catherine Gaudet and Jérémie Niel transpose the Shakespearean drama to a hermetic space full of sensual melancholy in which the Elizabethan voice intertwines with flesh and the urges of the forbidden. Clara Furey and Francis Ducharme incarnate an electrifying, magnetic duo of eternal lovers suspended between ecstasy and tragedy.Choreography and text come together in this sensitive piece inspired by the play by William Shakespeare, the ballet by Sergei Prokofiev, and the true story of Clara Furey and Francis Ducharme.

For several years now, Catherine Gaudet and Jérémie Niel have been engaged in an artistic complicity, bringing forward the dialogue between bodies and deep emotions.

Under the direction of Gaudet and Niel, Francis Ducharme and Clara Furey are frenetic reincarnations of Romeo and Juliet.
