Les papillons du littoral

  • Les papillons du littoral is an ode to the love stories of Verdun’s residents, shaped from collages of texts and interviews conducted by Tamara Nguyen. Blending the performance of two interpreters with the intimate confessions captured in the recordings, the creation explores the many metamorphoses of romantic feeling—through the flutterings of early desire, the passage of time, life’s challenges, and the butterflies felt deep in one’s stomach. Designed site-specifically, the piece engages in a dialogue with the architecture: it moves through windows, blurs the line between interior and exterior, and recreates fragments of places and memories. Inspired by 1960s French cinema and Harlequin novels—which filled Claudia Chan Tak’s childhood with feverish passions, lingering glances, and larger-than-life stories—the performance slips between reality and fiction, and between dance and theatre, to tell a story of love.
