Call for projects : digital residencies for emerging artists

In fall 2021, Lorganisme will launch LINTERFACE, an exploration and creation lab for digital experimentation in dance. Supported by the artist members of Lorganisme and its executive direction, this project will offer 3 residencies for emerging artists * who wish to explore new areas of creation, work and reflect on digital media (video, projection, animation, virtual reality, augmented reality and more).

LINTERFACE is a virtual space to appropriate for artists who are invited to develop their approach to digital forms. This project focuses on the enhancement and visibility of processes through the deployment of creation journals where artists in residence will be able to freely display their research, creations and reflections.

Without any production requirement, each residency consists of a period of paid research and exploration, giving the artist the opportunity to explore creative possibilities to approach digital formats of his/her choice and webcasting. Taking place over a period of 6 weeks, the residencies give way to:
– the development of a work intended for webcasting (live or not)
– the development of the premises of an augmented reality, virtual reality, animation and all other digital forms project
– the adaptation of an already existing work for the camera from a cinematographic or visual art perspective (excluding indoor show recording)

Throughout his/her project, the artist in residence will benefit from production support offered by the organization. Tailored to accommodate the creation journal forms, LINTERFACE will allow the artists to document their work during the residency. Over the weeks, he/she will be asked to share pieces of his/her creation process in various formats: photos, video capsules, interviews, choreographic notebook pages, drawings or sketches, audio tracks, zoom discussion, live sessions, etc.

In order to introduce his/her artistic universe, during the creation cycle, the artist in residence will share on the website previous creations from his/her repertoire. At the end of the residency, the artist will also publish a work in progress of his/her creation on the website. The residencies require a sustained investment of time and the artists must be available during one of the following periods: from November 29, 2021 to January 7, 2022; from January 10 to February 18, 2022; from February 21 to April 1, 2022.

Applications should take the form of a short 5-minute video in which the artist presents: 1) his/her approach, 2) his/her experiences with digital technology and 3) the type of projects he/she wishes to develop during the residency. Applications should also include a CV as well as one to three links to excerpts from works they have produced. Three projects will be selected by the artistic committee of Lorganisme (Caroline Laurin-Beaucage, Sébastien Provencher, Amélie Rajotte, Sovann Rochon-Prom Tep and Anne Thériault). Application videos can be sent by WeTransfer, as well as a CV and links to excerpts of their creations by email to melanie@lorganisme.com.
