Claudia Chan Tak
Claudia Chan Tak’s artistic approach reflects her multidisciplinary training, where dance is nourished by her background in visual arts. The dancing body becomes a material, integrated into a stage composition that weaves together scenography, costumes, props, and video projections. Influenced by cinema—particularly documentary, autobiographical, and wildlife films—she brings this sensibility into her creations, where family histories and territories serve as sources of gestural and aesthetic inspiration.
Multidisciplinarity, at the heart of her work, sets her unique approach apart, as each discipline—dance, visual arts, theatre, costume design—mutually enriches the other. Her cultural heritage also plays a central role in her creations, fueling an ongoing reflection on her history and her place in the world. Alongside her artistic practice, she is actively involved in the cultural scene, notably as a curator, event organizer, and founder of the Asian and Artistic Directory of Quebec. Since 2023, she has also co-organized the Asian Open Mics, providing a platform for the Asian community and encouraging exchange among artists. Her commitment to a more inclusive arts scene enriches both her artistic practice and her broader role within the community.
